Registering for the CILS B1 Cittadinanza: 100 euro, through a centre, six dates in 2026

What the Centro CILS publishes about booking

From the Centro CILS FAQ, the B1 c page and the manual Siena gives its centres.

• The fee for the B1 Cittadinanza is 100 euro. The B1 c page says “La tassa di esame è di 100 euro, in Italia e all'estero”.
• You register at a sede d'esame, not with the university. The FAQ says “Per iscriverti agli esami CILS in Italia e all'estero ti devi rivolgere alle sedi di esame”.
• The sedi are centres with a convenzione with the Università per Stranieri di Siena. The FAQ answers the cost question by pointing to the CILS secretariat, so ask the centre what it charges on top, if anything, before you pay.
• The centre asks for the fee at registration and passes it to the university, according to Siena's manual for centres.
• The centre enters your details exactly as they appear on your identity document and attaches a digital copy of it to the registration. The FAQ describes the same thing as a photocopy of an identity document plus the payment receipt.
• Registration gives you a numero di matricola. Keep it. Results are looked up with the matricola and your date of birth.

The 2026 calendar for the B1 Cittadinanza

Six sittings, all on Siena's 2026 date page, and the B1 c is offered at every one of them. The registration deadline is Siena's; centres can close earlier.

• 19 February 2026. Registration by 19 January 2026.
• 14 April 2026. Registration by 14 March 2026.
• 16 June 2026. Registration by 7 May 2026.
• 22 July 2026. Registration by 22 June 2026.
• 21 October 2026. Registration by 21 September 2026.
• 3 December 2026. Registration by 24 October 2026.

Why the June and December deadlines come sooner

Four of the six deadlines are a month before the sitting. June and December are forty days before, on 7 May and 24 October. The manual Siena gives its centres explains it: the June and December sessions close registrations 40 days before the exam date and the others 30 days before, and “Dopo queste date non sarà più possibile iscrivere o cancellare i candidati”. No level changes are allowed after the deadline either.

Those are Siena's dates. A centre has its own paperwork to finish before it sends the list, and many close their own registration a week or two earlier. The sitting is the same day everywhere, the deadline that applies to you is the centre's.

The standard B1 runs at only two of the six dates in 2026, 16 June and 3 December. The B1 Cittadinanza runs at all six. If you need a sitting soon, that is one reason to choose the citizenship paper.

Planning it against the rest of the application

The certificate has to be attached when the application is filed, so it is the one document with a calendar of its own. Results for the B1 Cittadinanza take about 45 days by Siena's manual and about three months by its general pages, and the certificate then goes to the centre for collection. Count back from the day you want to file.

Nothing in Law 91/1992 or on the Centro CILS site puts an expiry on the certificate, and Siena says the riepilogo delle prove has no scadenza. There is no penalty for sitting early, which is the opposite of the position in some neighbouring countries.

If an abilità is failed the whole paper is sat again at a later session, at the full fee, so a sitting that leaves room for a second before your filing date is the cheap arrangement. Belong Italy does that arithmetic with the dates you give it.
